    Tomorrow

I will be sore. Soccer today was rough. Tuesday will be worse. Also, my left ass cheek started to cramp up about half an hour in. I kept playing because it’s not too bad, and I’m an adult, but it’s super annoying. And I have no idea how to stretch it.

    Soccer

    Seriously though

How do you stretch that out?

Pep Guardiola will not return as manager of Barcelona

Following Barcelona’s stunning defeat by Chelsea on Tuesday and the impending coronation of Real as champions of Spain, 41-year-old Guardiola informed the club of his decision, which is thought to be that he feels both he and the players would benefit from a change.

A press conference will be held later this morning.

Wow. This is pretty huge. Not totally unexpected, but still a big deal. I’m a huge fan of Pep both as a manager and just as a person, so I’d like to wish him luck, wherever he ends up.

Men in Blazers: The Charge Was Racism

This is brilliant! The man who wrote it should get an award. All the awards! I can’t decide whether I love this screenplay or Stoke fans singing “He cheats, he dives, he hates the Jackson 5, Luis Suareeez, Luis Suareeeeeeeeeeeeez!” most. Either way we all win. Well, except Luis Suarez. And Anne Hathaway.

    meninblazers:

Here at Men in Blazers, much is written or said without any real consideration for the aftermath. GFOP Mike Rothschild was killing time recently by leafing through old newsletters when he stumbled upon the January 5th issue where we challenged readers to turn the Football Association’s report on the Luis Suarez case into a screenplay. Somebody couldn’t actually shoulder such a burden, could then? Rothschild, a playwright, humbly accepted the task.

“As a writer, I felt it was my duty to take this obtuse, nearly unreadable tome and transform it into sub-optimal entertainment,” Rothschild writes. “I gave myself a night and three cans of Boddingtons and ‘The Charge was Racism: The FA vs. Luis Suarez’ is the result.”

Football as drama. We have a feeling that other GFOPs might also be interested in reading the courtroom drama narrated by Sir Ian Darke. The document can be downloaded by clicking here.

I watched the England v. Netherlands game today. I’ve been a pretty big Oranje fan for awhile now, so I was pleased with the result. But more importantly, I think I fell in love with the new away kit. I have never considered buying a national team away shirt more than I am right now.

    Men In Blazers 2/9

You guys! I’ll give you one guess as to who’s email was read and answered brilliantly on last week’s podcast. Hint: The answer is me (Near the end at around 42:50). Anyway if you watch/follow/play soccer and you’re not already listening to Men In Blazers you are making a big mistake. So correct it.

You guys! Remember last week when I thought The Good Joeys were in some trouble? Turns out, the team is even more solid than I gave them credit for, and they continue to climb the Tumblr league table. 38/354! They’ve also closed down the gap between myself and the gentleman currently in first in another of my leagues from 60+ points to 7. Keep it up boys!

You guys! With the exception of Week 19, The Good Joeys have been steadily climbing the tumblr Fantasy Premier League table since about Week 8. 46 out of 354 isn’t bad. With an incredibly low transfer total of 6 I feel pretty good about having spotted the potential in players early and sticking with them through bad spells without having knee jerk trade reactions and getting rid of them only to regret it when they return to form. Lowest number of transfers is also the first tie breaker, so there’s that too.
I try to stay away from posting about fantasy sports because who cares, right? But this is going to be a rough week for me, where I may very well not have a full team available. So I wanted to remember being this high up the table.

Tim Howard of Everton scores from 100+ yards away in today’s loss to Bolton Wanderers. On the upside though, he now has more goals in 2012 than the entire Manchester United team. (Sorry to you United supporters, but it’s just too easy right now).

Tim Howard scores a goal. Tim Krul gets an assist. It’s been a big day in the EPL for keepers. And guys named Tim.

So imagine if you were playing a game of soccer, but there were three teams, each defending a goal, and the teams could form alliances and break them at any time, because the goals you concede count as much as the goals each of the three scores?
It’s all kind of confusing, but it happens from time to time, and Sid Lowe explains its fascinating effects and origin — if you’re familiar with Situationist philosophy, you’ll get this right off the bat, and if psychology is more your bag, it’s an interesting twist that brings a sort of Prisoner’s Dilemma to the pitch.

Sid Lowe has mentioned this on Football Weekly a couple times. I want to try it so much.

Oh, Trap, you naughty boy!

You guys, last week Ireland qualified for Euro 2012. I was getting in trouble at work because I had the live score update running on my computer for both playoff games and I kept yelling when they scored. But whatever, it was only the old grumpy people who cared. Anyway, this picture is brilliant. O’Trapattoni’s complete notgiveafuckery when he knows there are cameras on him is impressive.
Also, FAI marketing, you’re doing it right.

Sometimes, a well placed ‘fuck’ really gets me

This was in the comments section (I usually try to stay away, but sometimes I can’t help it) of an article on Spurs last week and I kept forgetting to post it. I laughed so hard at this. At work.

You guys! Wolves! 2-0 at the top of the table with Man City and Man U! Obviously that’s not likely to last, but it’s pretty great while it does.
And can we please talk about their game this weekend? It was brilliant. The Good Joeys had a rough week, with my midfield being basically useless, but having Wolves defender Roger Johnson on my team really saved the day. Regardless of that fact, is it even possible for anyone to dislike this team? I’m sure it is, I guess, but I just can’t see it.
